Art toys don't usually come with music. This one does. From Coal to Diamonds is out now, the official soundtrack for Coally, produced by Ronnie Desiderio for Epic Toy Sound out of Atlanta. Heavy, low, built out of grit rather than melody. It sounds the way the object looks.
The pack is more than the track: an uncompressed WAV master, an MP3 for social, a set of sound effects made to sit under toy photography and video edits, and alternate cover art. If you shoot figures, that middle part is the useful one.

Coally is 25 cm of high-gloss black vinyl with a single matte red break where the heart goes. Those two finishes are the only two on the entire figure — everything else is black on black. Long ears, cracked gloves, white boots, a skull-white face under a balaclava. The balaclava isn't hiding. It's control over what he shows, which is a different thing.
Two hundred of him exist. Individually numbered, 001 through 200, and when the run is finished the mold closes. No restock, no second version of the same figure, not later and not ever. The edition is the product.
Every figure carries a chip. Tap it with a phone and it opens one page — the page belonging to that number and no other. On it is a Keeper's Log, and each owner leaves a single line in it. Nobody can erase the lines that came before. Sell the figure on and it doesn't reset; it arrives at the next person carrying everyone who held it first.
The name of the track is also the whole idea behind the brand. Coal under enough pressure, for long enough, becomes diamond. We didn't want to explain that in a sentence, so we made an object out of it. Now there's a sound for it too.
Drop 01 opens on Kickstarter on August 25 at 17:00 CET — 11am in New York, 8am in Los Angeles — and runs thirty days, closing September 24. The first fifty figures are €179, the ninety after that €199, and thirty Signature pieces at €299 carry a hand-signed certificate and an original sketch by Oleh, who drew him. Estimated delivery is April 2027.
